Nature

The goal of this project was to create a short film that not only met the requirements, but also allowed me to try new things and learn. This involved all aspects of film production, from developing the story and creating a storyboard to finding locations and assembling a team, filming, and post-production work such as editing and sound design.

I wanted to tell a story that would be engaging and thought-provoking, and that would not give away the ending right away. To keep the scope of the project manageable, I set some boundaries for the story: it would take place outdoors, at as few locations as possible, and involve no more than three characters.

The story follows two lumberjacks who encounter a young woman while they are working in the forest. When they try to continue their work despite her presence, something strange happens. The woman turns out to be the personification of Mother Nature, who takes the lumberjacks to a deforested, abandoned field and tells them about the suffering caused by the destruction of millions of square meters of forest every day. The lumberjacks are only following orders, but Mother Nature has had enough and tasks them with delivering a message. However, driven by an unseen force, the lumberjacks turn their tools - an axe and a chainsaw - against each other. What happens next remains a mystery, as Mother Nature sits on the clearing again, feeding fresh blood to new plants and starting the cycle anew.
